Description
Time to get out and get to the top. This level is all about ropes and knots! Mountaineering - Level 2This is level 1 of a 5 level series to get you confident outside in any conditions. Levels: Level 1 - Introduction to Mountaineering: What is mountaineering? Is it for you? This class will look at what mountaineering is and talk about the type of gear and skills that are essential to opening up a whole new world of outdoor exploration. Level 2 - Ropes and Knots: Mountaineering, in most circumstances, requires the use of ropes, knowledge of particular knots, and specialized gear. We will discuss those topics with plenty of hands-on practice tying knots. Level 3 - Working on a Rope Team: Travel in the high mountains often means traveling on glaciers, steep slopes, and over dangerous terrain. This means that you will be climbing as part of a team all roped together. We will discuss how and why we rope up, when we should and shouldn't work as a rope team, and the roles everyone needs to play. This will be a very hands-on, practice-based class Level 4 - Route Finding and Trip Planning: With plenty of practical skills now under your belt it is time to look at getting out on the mountain. Planning a trip high into the mountains presents some unique challenges; navigating ice fields, traversing glaciers, setting up camp, and other trip preparations. Learn how to prep for a successful adventure. Level 5 - Crevasse Rescue: With proper preparation, planning and route-finding, you will never have to practice crevasse rescue. However, this skill is necessary for anyone hoping to tackle bigger mountains and more adventurous terrain. This class will introduce you to the set of technical skills needed to self-rescue as well as to set up rescue systems to pull another climber out of a crevasse.
