The Truth: It is said in scripture that the truth shall set you free. With that in mind, let us speak candidly about the United States Republican Party as we set off on the challenges that America and the world faces in the 21st Century. The Republican Party was founded on the noblest of principles: That all people should be free to live life to the fullest; that slavery is an abomination of the core values of a nation founded on the notion that individual freedom is the hallmark value that enlightens our political processes; and that individual responsibility includes caring for the least able amongst us. During its history, the Party has struggled with these competing ideologies, and at times has strayed from those principles in pursuit of power and electoral victories. That is no more evident than where the party is now. Today the Republican Party is owned, operated, and entirely controlled by elitist/monied interests that have not only strayed from its noble past but have no clue about the history of this once "Grand Ole Party". What the Party has become, starting with Senator Goldwater and continued by Richard Nixon, is a party of orthodoxy determined in boardrooms as varied as Fortune 500 media conglomerates as well as "religious" universities and money-grubbing megachurches. They have told you that Christianity is the only religion allowed to be celebrated and worshipped. That Islam is a false religion only followed by heretics with a masochistic bend for an eternity spent in hell. That greed is not only good, it is a holy pursuit. This is counter to not only the foundation of Christianity, but it is also in disagreement with the world's other great religions. All of this has been done with Machiavellian machinations that are now at the core of the demagoguery that is killing the Party. Some of the strongest proponents of this are Mitch McConnel, Donald Trump, Lyndsey Graham, Joel Olsteen, the entire executive leadership of Liberty University, the Alt-Right, and the idiots who disagree with me here on Craigslist. The Republican Party hates Social Security and would privatize it if possible. They loath Medicare, and would dismantle it tomorrow if they could. They don't care about the environment and believe that we can pollute the world forever and not see any negative consequences from such irresponsible acts. And that America was a far better off place when women were barefoot and pregnant, black people knew their place, native Americans were warehoused in reservations far, far away from "righteous" America, and that all immigrants (as well as anyone not white, European, and "blessed with the x-y chromosomes") were somewhere south of the Rio-Grande or other "shit-hole" places in lands quite distant from Mar-a-Lago! Well, all you "R's" out there, times have changed. Get on board with the new...or get left behind with your antiquated and outmoded beliefs of the old.
