St John's Day Candlelit Service with Boar's Head Reception
Monday 27 December is the Feast of St John the Evangelist, who is the patron saint of St John's in the Village. This patronal celebration begins with a Choral Eucharist by candlelight in the church at 6pm. The guest speaker is Fr Lloyd Prator, Rector Emeritus of St John's. The music features newly-commissioned choral music by young NY composer Leonard Bopp: a complete mass-setting and two sacred motets.
Following the service we retire to the courtyard garden where, around the fire and the Christmas tree, we enjoy hot spiced apple juice, hot mulled wine, sausages, and, of course, the traditional roasted pig's head, processed around the Christmas tree to the music of the Boar's Head Carol. (If the weather is inclement food and drink will be served in Revelation Gallery).
You must be fully vaccinated to attend. Face-coverings should be worn indoors but are optional outdoors or when actively eating or drinking. Free, but registration for catering purposes is helpful.
