Description

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead senior homeowners are invited to participate in the town's 2022 property tax relief program where they can get a tax break in exchange for volunteer service in town departments or programs. Seniors are eligible for up to $750 in tax relief. Participants must be at least 60 years old, own and occupy a home in the town and meet certain other income eligibility requirements. Only one abatement is allowed per household. There are up to 30 available tax-relief positions for 2022 with volunteer work available in classrooms, libraries, offices, lunchrooms and with other town services. Applications will be accepted from Jan. 10 through Jan. 31 at the Council on Aging on Humphrey Street. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until positions are full. Seniors will accrue property tax relief at the rate of $14.25 per hour volunteered (state minimum wage) with a maximum of $750 in relief per year. An application can be found here and returned to the Council on Aging. More information on the program can be found here.
