FRAMINGHAM, MA — Coronavirus cases in Framingham continued to rise over the past week, according to data released Wednesday, with the number of active cases now double what they were two weeks ago. Since Dec. 8, 118 more city residents tested positive for COVID-19. That brought the total number of active cases to 408, up from 210 reported on Dec. 1. Framingham has not had so many active cases since early June. Many of the new cases have been found in people under age 30, according to city data, with 223 detected in that group. The median age of new cases dropped to a recent low of 27. Framingham Public Schools continues to report elevated cases. There were 15 new cases at the high school on Wednesday alone, plus 20 more spread across nine other elementary and middle schools between Tuesday and Wednesday. At the state level, health officials reported 5,133 new cases on Wednesday, and the statewide positive test rate hit 5.35 percent. Framingham's positive test rate over the last two weeks has been 3.81 percent.
