Press release from the Spokane County Government: December 15, 2021 Update: Deputy-Involved Shooting on Bigelow Gulch Road     The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is releasing the names of the Deputies involved in the December 10, 2021 incident in the 5400 block of N. Bigelow Gulch.  The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is releasing the  names of the Deputies  involved in the December 10, 2021 incident in the 5400 block of N. Bigelow Gulch.    Deputy Kyle Leavenworth began his law enforcement career with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office in January of 2016.  During his time with us, he earned a Life Saving Award in 2020 for providing life-saving medical aid to a man who had suffered cardiac arrest.  Deputy Leavenworth is currently assigned to Downtown Patrol Division, and he is a Field Training Officer (FTO), Reality Based Training (RBT) Instructor, and a Firearms Instructor for the Sheriff's Office.      Deputy Ashley Hood joined the Spokane County Sheriff's Office in October of this year.  She is a Lateral Deputy hire from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, where she served for three years as a Deputy.  She was also a member of their Explorer Program for two years before being hired full-time.   In compliance with WAC 139-12, Spokane County Sheriff's Office/Spokane Valley Police Department personnel will not be involved in this investigation.   The SIIR Team continues to investigate the incident. The SIIR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, the Washington State Patrol, Liberty Lake Police Department, Airway Heights Police Department, Spokane Valley Police Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.   Once the SIIR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.  This press release was produced by the Spokane County Government.
