Joint letter from Milford schools and police:
December 16, 2021
Dear Members of the Milford Public Schools Community,
The Milford Public School district is aware of a viral, nationwide TikTok trend which has spread to other social media platforms. The post refers to a threat to school safety referencing gun violence in schools on Friday, December 17, 2021.
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), in conjunction with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, has notified us that at this time these are notcredible threats in Connecticut. These agencies have been in communication with all of the school districts throughout our state and will continue to provide updates as necessary.
Through the strong partnership between the Milford Public Schools and the Milford Police Department, we are actively monitoring and assessing this situation. At this time, we have no threats to the Milford Public Schools community.
We will follow up with our school community with any updates, if needed. Both in an abundance of caution and for a sense of safety for our school community, the Milford Police Department will be providing an additional presence at our schools tomorrow.
We strongly encourage you to speak to your children about social media and the importance of letting an adult know when they see something dangerous or inappropriate. Having open communication is a critical piece of maintaining safe and secure learning environments for our students and staff.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is the highest priority for the Milford community.
Sincerely,Anna M. Cutaia, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Keith Mello, Chief
Milford Police Department
