Westfield Police Find 'No Credible Evidence' Of Threat To Schools

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield police are remaining vigilant on local schools but said there is "no credible information to indicate this threat is specific to any school in Westfield, or even any school in New Jersey," Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said. A nationwide challenge pushing violence in schools on Friday has spread on social media platforms like TikTok. Multiple law enforcement agencies across the country say they are monitoring reports of the challenge. "The Westfield Police Department is always monitoring communications provided by the New Jersey Regional Operations Intelligence Center and other law enforcement fusion centers," stated Chief Battiloro, "Nevertheless, we must always remain vigilant at all times." Chief Battiloro reassured residents that uniformed Westfield Police Department officers already maintain a highly visible presence at all Westfield schools, and they will continue do so on Friday. This includes not only at drop-off and pick-up times, but also during school operating hours. As always, Chief Battiloro urges anyone who observes any suspicious persons, vehicles and/or activities to immediately report them to the Westfield Police Department via 9-1-1. "The Westfield Police Department will communicate any relevant information it receives to school administrators and it will work with them to ensure the safety of their students and staff at all times," stated Chief Battiloro.
