DANBURY, CT — The Danbury War Memorial will likely receive over $1.4 million in state funding for upgrades to its facility, The Fairfield Citizen reported. An allocation of $1,435,520 for the renovations is listed in the state Bond Commission's agenda for its Dec. 21 meeting. If approved, it would provide a grant-in-aid to the town of Danbury. Renovations would include upgrades to the facility's utility, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, the agenda said. Chick Volpe, chair of the War Memorial Association Board, said the War Memorial wouldn't be able to afford the renovations without the state money. "We couldn't be more thankful, what a nice Christmas present," Volpe said in a statement, as reported by The Fairfield Citizen. "I was telling (State Rep.) Bob (Godfrey) for us, being a non-profit there is no way we could have raised that kind of money on our own, so we are very thankful." Read more from The Fairfield Citizen.
