The storms left Urbandale High School, Willard Elementary School, and King Elementary School without power, forcing the schools to tell students to stay home. The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School District also closed Thursday, citing downed power lines and inaccessible bus routes. According to the district superintendent, no damage was done to the school buildings. (KCCI Des Moines)Workers who did not receive federal pandemic relief money asked the City of Des Moines to consider them for inclusion in a new fund on Wednesday. The excluded workers fund would support undocumented workers using a portion of the $94.8 million the city will receive from the federal government. City Manager Scott Sanders acknowledged the request and said the city will consider the proposal. The delay is due to extensive damage from severe storms Wednesday night that left a number of trees, wires, and transmission lines down.
