Police Investigate Threat Against High School In Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – Ewing High School went into lockdown Wednesday after district administration was made aware of social media threats against Ewing High School. At 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, the Ewing High School administration found "vague social media posting alluding to a potential school security threat." Out of an abundance of caution, the police were notified and the school went into lockdown. "Officers responded to the school and determined the threat not to be credible," Ewing police said. The lockdown was lifted at 2:32 p.m., and classes were dismissed under a heavy police presence. "Investigation continues into the matter at this time, however, we are not aware of any ongoing threat." School authorities said that no gun or weapon of any kind was found at school. This is the fourth incident in Mercer County in the past two weeks. Threats were reported in Hightstown High School and West Windsor High School, and a student in Lawrence High School was caught with a loaded handgun. In the past two weeks, schools in New Jersey reported 11 threats and two incidents of students bringing guns to school in Somerset, Hudson, Ocean, Glouster, and Mercer counties.
