NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A former North Kingstown High School student accused ex-basketball coach Aaron Thomas of sexually molesting him, according to a newly released internal investigation the school district conducted.
The allegation was part of an 87-page investigation report WPRI 12 obtained in a public records request, and it details the most damning allegation levied against Thomas. According to the report, the student told investigators that since the age of 13, he was sexually molested by Thomas on a quarterly basis during his high school years.
"Although he denies penetration while being fat tested, he claims that the coach would often use his fingers by lifting his genitals, run his fingers between his anus and genitals on the pretense of checking for hernia, while breathing heavily in his face," Attorney Matthew Oliverio wrote in the report.
Several former students have accused Thomas of forcing them to strip naked behind closed doors for so-called "fat tests." Thomas denied he has done anything illegal.
According to WPRI 12, which first reported this story, Superintendent Phil Auger kept Thomas on as a coach for more than two years after some students came forward. This has led many outraged parents to call for Auger's resignation. Auger denied he knew the extent of the allegations in 2018.
