PHILADELPHIA — Police in Philadelphia have taken three men suspected of at least two armed robberies that occurred recently. Three men, two 19 and one 22, were taken into custody Wednesday night after a man and woman were held at gunpoint on the 1300 block of South 19th Street. Police said at about 6:15 p.m., a man and woman were unloading furniture from their vehicle on that block when a dark Subaru SUV stopped, then reversed back toward the couple. Two men armed with handguns got out of the vehicle, one pointed the gun at the man's chest and demanded his watch and money, police said. The man handed over his Fossil watch and Samsung smartphone, police said. Police said the other armed man held the woman at gunpoint and told her not to move. The armed them then got back into the vehicle and drove off, heading south on 19th Street. The male victim took down the vehicle's license plate and provided it to police. A short while late, plainclothes police in an unmarked vehicle who were patrolling the Rittenhouse Square area saw a silver Lincoln MKZ going east on the 1700 block of Locust Street. Police said that vehicle matched the description of a vehicle involved in a gunpoint robbery that occurred Dec. 7 on the 200 block of Mozart Place. In that robbery, two men got out of the Lincoln and robbed a man of his Rolex watch at gunpoint, police said. Police stopped the Lincoln at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, and took the occupants into custody. Later, the victims from the robbery on South 19th Street identified two of the men as the men who robbed them earlier in the evening, police said. Police said the Subaru used in that robbery has not been located, and the Lincoln was towed to a police lot. "Last evening, three individuals were taken into custody by Philadelphia Police in connection to an armed robbery that had occurred earlier in the evening," Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. "At this time, we believe that at least one of these individuals was also involved in at least one of many similar gunpoint robberies that have occurred over the last several weeks in Center City Philadelphia. The PPD will continue to work with our law enforcement and community partners to ensure that those responsible for these — and all — dangerous crimes are taken into custody."
