ELMHURST, IL — The new public relations official for Elmhurst School District 205 arrived from a job in Florida. On Tuesday, the school board unanimously voted for Tonya Daniels as the new executive director of communications and community relations for the district. Her salary is $140,000. For the last 5½ years, Daniels was the marketing and communications director for the city of Miami Beach. Before that, she served in other city marketing positions for about three years. Before moving to Florida, Daniels worked for the Rockford Park District as the corporate partnership manager. She holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Northern Illinois University and a master's of business administration degree from Rockford University. According to a District 205 news release, Daniels has considerable experience in crisis communication, strategic marketing, communication campaigns and media relations. "I look forward to sharing the many inspiring stories of our students and schools while ensuring that District 205 is effectively communicating and connecting with all families, students and staff," she said in the release. Daniels was at the board's meeting Tuesday, where a shouting match over masks took place among audience members, derailing the session for a few minutes. In early September, the public relations director's position became vacant with the exit of Beverly Redmond, who held the position for more than three years. A consultant held the position in the interim.
