PORTLAND, OR — McMenamins says that they were hit by a ransomware attack this past weekend, leading to a breach of staff personal data. No customer information was lost or stolen. Brian McMenamin, who co-founded the company that now operates nearly 60 restaurants, hotels, movie theaters, and more around Oregon and Washington, says that the attach is "especially disheartening. "It further adds to the strain and hardship that our employees have been through in the past two years. We ask that our customers give our employees extra grace." The company says that the attack happened – and was blocked on December 12. The FBI was called and is investigating. McMenamins says that the attack forced them to take many systems such as credit card payments and the company's email accounts to be taken offline and forced them to make changes to how they do business. All of the company's properties are still open. They are not sure when things will be back to normal.
