ATLANTA, GA — Police are investigating six shootings that made Wednesday one of the most violent days in Atlanta in months.
The first report came shortly before 3 p.m. when Atlanta Police were called to the report of a man shot at a home in the 400 block of Thaxton Drive in southeast Atlanta. Officers arrived and found the victim who did not survive his injuries, police said.
Investigators continue to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, according to authorities.
Wednesday evening around 10:40 p.m., officers called to an incident at Lethea Street and Jonesboro Road in southeast Atlanta found two men shot, and learned another man with gunshot wounds had already been taken to a nearby hospital. Police said the three victims were "alert, conscious and breathing" when they were taken in for treatment of their injuries.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident, police said.
Within minutes of the southeast Atlanta incident, officers responding to a report of shots fired in the 2000 block of DeLowe Drive in southwest Atlanta found two juvenile males who had been shot. Police said the boys were the victims of a drive-by shooting as they walked along the street, and investigators are working to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The city has not seen a collection of gunshot victims of this magnitude since March when four individuals were shot within the span of four hours.
