UCSF-Department of Radiology conducting a research study to evaluate bone health and body composition using
imaging as well as lab tests and general health assessments.
In order to participate in the study, you must:
Be a female with HIV between 50-70 years old
Have no history of diabetes or diseases associated with poor bone quality
Not on medications known to impact bone and mineral metabolism
Be able to have an MRI

Study participation would include two visits over the course of two different days.
The first study visit:
will take place at the UCSF China Basin Imaging Center and consist of,
- MRI imaging,
- QCT imaging, high resolution CT imaging of the wrist and ankle, and
- General health assessments and questionnaires.
The second study visit:
will take place,
- at UCSF China Basin to perform the DXA bone density scan and
- at UCSF Mission Bay to do the blood draw.
All imaging for this study is non-invasive. You will be compensated
$125 for completing the China Basin visit (approx. 3.5 hours) and
$75 for the DXA and lab visit (approx. 1.5 hours)
