Each ticket covers the cost of much-needed cooking supplies per family of 8, as well as Afghani food for you and a refugee friend! Hi everyone, We are so grateful that you are considering attending this event, and hope you will join us in creating more connection, peace and well....magic in 2022! Here's what we'te up to: After the United States military left the country of Afghanistan, the lives of thousands of people have collapsed under the rule of the Taliban. Ohio has commited to resettling 500 of the families that escaped; 75 of the familiies have arrived in Columbus. As each family acclimates, the supplies that are most urgently needed are large stockpots, ladles, and bowls. These items allow the families to cook affordable meals familiar to them in large quanitities, and are the least likely to be donated to resettlement agencies. But the most valuable gift we can give these families is YOU. Studies have shown that the #1 most effective way to prevent people from committing suicide when they are forced to leave their homes is creating friendships in their new country. At the dinner, each table will have an opportunity to share a meal with a person from Afghanistan, and present them face-to-face with your donation for their family.
