Description

Join ExploreMore Landlopers Jennifer and Debbie and start the new year outdoors. ExploreMore Landlopers Jennifer and Debbie will be leading a New Years Hike at Cedar Hill State Park at the Talala Trailhead. Explore More is here to bring you a fun outdoor community event where we will get in nature and soak up the fresh air with a family friendly hike and some beginner yoga in nature. We want to give you the opportunity to explore new trails and activities while meeting new people and building confidence outdoors. Cost: Hike is FREE. You will need a state park pass or buy a day pass to enter the park. Hike Length: We will have 2 options. We will have a 2.5 mile hiking group and a 4.5 mile hiking group. Event Overview: We will meet at the Talala Trailhead at 1pm and we will have a fun and beginner friendly short yoga practice before the hike. It will be a standing practice on an even surface- no mat needed. Then we will talk about a few things such as outdoor and hiking ethics, what to do when you see a mountain biker coming etc and then set off! You will have the option of going 2.5 miles or 4.5 miles. Parking: There is plenty of free parking in the park and near the Talala trailhead. What you bring: Please bring water and a snack if needed (but be sure to pack any trash out) and wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothes and tennis shoes. Trekking poles or a walking stick recommended if you would like assistance with avoiding tripping or assistance climbing hills. You will NOT need a yoga mat. Light jacket recommended even if you don't think you will need it because you know... Texas weather can change its mind. What to expect: We will practice yoga for before the hike and it will be a standing practice. Then you will have the option to hike either 2.5 miles of 4.5 miles. This is a hiking only trail so there should be no bikers. Get Physical: Recommended skills for this hike: The ability to listen and follow instructions, walk independently or with light assistance with a single point cane or trek-pole, the ability to look for trip hazards, lift feet 3 inches from the ground, move to the side quickly and the ability to not touch or ingest the flora and fauna. Trash Talk: Explore More encourages cleaning up the trail as we go. A grocery sack will be provided. Glove wearing is welcomed. We will make it fun! Before your Hike: Hydrate, even in cooler temps. If your lips are dry, you need more water. You might also need an electrolyte drink post hike (Gatorade, Propel, Body Armor) so bring one for your car. Family friendly: Yes! Your kids are welcome!! However, no strollers and make sure children can handle a the distance OR be held. Dogs are also welcome but must be on a leash and you must pack out poop. Be sure to have any baby carrying device you need and that kids and dogs can obey commands especially when we need to step aside so bikers can pass. What you will get from us: You will have a fun experience, meet amazing people, be led in an outdoor yoga class and guided hike as well as more swag, education and inspiration to get outside and build confidence outdoors so you can continue to Explore More on your own. Weather disclosure: If weather does not allow us to have our event or recent weather has caused the trail to close, we will either relocate or reschedule or you can transfer to another event. Please check your email and the Facebook event for any updates. Our mission is to get everyone outside inspiring them to Explore MORE.
