Description

Screening of "Trigger: The Ripple Effect of Gun Violence" and panel discussion In the United States more than 30,000 people are killed every year by gun violence. The disaster caused by gun violence is seen in almost every community. Trigger shares the story of how gun violence - a disaster and public health issue - impacts individuals and communities, giving voice to the questions and insights of those who have been affected. After looking at their in-depth experiences, the documentary turns to the bigger question, “What can we do to prevent gun violence?” Trigger seeks to move the conversation away from the polarizing extremes that have long dominated the debate by lifting up the voices and experiences of those who seek common ground and a new way forward. A panel discussion will immediately follow the film, including participants from the Columbia Police Department, State Senator Seth Rose, a trauma surgeon, and a representative from Moms Demand Action for Gun Violence. Doors open at 6:30 pm with movie beginning at 7:00 pm. Appropriate for ages 16 and up.
