Join us for this talk about the inventive ways Floridians put food on the table and survived during the Great Depression and its aftermath, focusing on one woman’s memories of how her unemployed father kept his family afloat by collecting Spanish moss and selling it for mattress stuffing.
A former board Member of Vero Heritage which operates the Heritage Center in downtown Vero Beach, Janie Gould is a fourth generation Florida native. Gould’s popular radio series, “Floridays” enjoyed a nine-year run on public radio station WQCS-FM.
Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
