WESTPORT, CT — A man accused of stealing a bike from a Westport home early Wednesday morning was also found with stolen credit cards in his possession, according to police. In a news release, Lt. Dave Wolf said a town resident who happened to be awake around 4:15 a.m. noticed an unknown man looking inside cars parked in the resident's driveway. The resident told officers he briefly lost sight of the man, then saw him leave the driveway moments later with a bike stolen from the home's garage, Wolf said. When police arrived in the area, an officer saw a man riding a bike and attempted to speak with him, however the man dropped the bike and ran off on foot, Wolf said. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and used a Westport Police K-9 to track the man. Police initially were unable to locate the man until an officer noticed him walking along Hickory Drive a short time later. According to Wolf, this road backs up to the area where the bike was stolen. The man, 20-year-old Michael Correa of College Point, N.Y., was identified as the person who ran from the officer that tried to speak with him earlier, Wolf said. "Further," Wolf said in a news release, "the bike he was seen riding was purportedly that same one that had just been reported stolen." Police also found credit cards in Correa's possession that were not in his name. They were later confirmed to have been stolen, Wolf said. Correa was charged with third-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and payment card theft. He was held on a $10,000 bond and arraigned in Stamford Superior Court. Wolf noted the investigation is still active and additional charges are possible.
