NEWTON, MA — Newton fire crews were working to put out hot spots and checking for damage Wednesday afternoon after knocking down the bulk of a two-alarm fire on Jackson Road.
Newton fire said it responded to the fire about 1 p.m. and advised drivers to avoid the area of Jackson Road and Wiltshire Road early Wednesday afternoon.
Crews hit a second alarm for the fire about 1:15.
A report from the scene said crews tried to revive a cat caught in the house, but it did not survive.
