BURLINGTON, MA — The Burlington Police Department is investigating after someone posted a threat against Burlington High School to an anonymous Instagram account. In the message, which school administrators were made aware of on Tuesday, someone posted "a desire to cause harm at the school prior to winter break," officials said. The language was generalized, officials said, and investigators don't believe the school is in active danger. But there will still be an increased police presence at the school through the holiday season, Burlington Police Chief Thomas Browne said. "We take all threats and threatening language seriously," Browne said. "We are proud of our strong School Resource Officer program, and we have a close working relationship with students, faculty, staff and administrators in the Burlington Public Schools." Browne said police are pursuing information directly from Instagram and its parent company, Meta, and he's encouraging anyone with information to call Burlington Police at (781) 272-1212. "Any information can be helpful and will contribute to the overall sense of safety and security in our schools," Browne said.
