TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Monmouth County woman was critically injured Tuesday morning when she ran a stop sign and was hit by a garbage truck in Toms River, police said. Anna Zybura, 37, of Keansburg, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday night, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department. Zybura was driving north on Garfield Avenue about 7:50 a.m. when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Windsor Avenue, Messina said. As Zybura drove into the intersection, she was hit by a Toms River Township garbage truck, which was driving west on Windsor, Messina said. Zybura was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which resulted in severe head trauma and additional injuries, she said. The driver of the garbage truck was not injured, Messina said. Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater is investigating.
