Boulder Valley Closes Mountain Schools

BOULDER, CO — Boulder Valley School District has closed its mountain schools due to high winds, the district announced Wednesday morning. Nederland Middle-Senior High School, Nederland Elementary School, Jamestown Elementary School, and Gold Hill Elementary School are all closed Wednesday. Buses servicing Nederland schools are also not running Wednesday, the district said. District buses are also not traveling into the mountains. Students who live in mountain areas who are not provided bus service will be granted an excused absence if they are not able to obtain alternative transportation. The National Weather Service says that winds could reach up to 85 miles an hour in Boulder Wednesday. There is also a 50% chance of snow showers, and large dust storms have been reported. A Hazard Weather Outlook, High Wind Warning, Air Quality Alert, and Red Flag Warning are all in effect in Boulder Wednesday morning as a Pacific storm moves through Colorado.
