Press release from San Diego Community College District: December 14, 2021 Marciano Perez, Jr. has been named as the new vice president of Student Services at San Diego City College. Perez is a higher education professional with over 25 years of progressive administrative and leadership experience with a track record of supporting students, providing access to education — all with a social justice and equity lens.  He begins his new role on Thursday, December 16, 2021 pending San Diego Community College District Board approval.  "I came to City College because I wanted to work at a place where social justice, equity, and inclusion were at the forefront of its institutional values," said Perez, a first generation high school and college student from Gary, Indiana. "There were many schools talking about those values but City College was doing the work. This is what excites me."  Prior to his new role, Perez served as the acting vice president of Student Services and as the dean of Student Affairs, which oversees scholarships, Associated Students Government, student clubs, and student conduct, both at City College.  "I am a student-centered educator that is passionate about access to higher education, social justice, developing civic engagement and student success," Perez said. "My ultimate goal is always to help create a holistic learning environment where all our stakeholders thrive: students, faculty, and classified professionals."  Perez earned his Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature from Denison University. is a first-generation college student. Before arriving at City College in 2016, Perez worked at the UC San Diego as the associate dean of Students and director of Residence Life; and at university of California Davis working in residential education. As the vice president, Perez will oversee the college's student support services that include Admission and Records, Counseling, Outreach, Financial Aid, Transfer and Career Center, and Student Affairs, among others. "My leadership experiences in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion are founded in honoring the intersectionality of a person's identity.
