New Quilt Exhibit At GBCC's Gateway Gallery Now Through February

Press release from Great Bay Community College: Dec. 14, 2021 Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth, NH is pleased to announce an exhibition of handmade quilts by Pat Vermette and Barbara Briere at the Gateway Gallery located at the College's Portsmouth campus at the Pease Tradeport. The exhibit will run from December 9 to February 28, 2022. As a quilt artist, Pat Vermette carries on the legacy of her great grandmother, grandmother and mother. She explains, "Making quilts is so, so much more than just sewing blankets." Her grandmother, who made crazy quilts, chose special pieces of fabric for the person she was making it for. In retirement, Pat makes quilts for her own children, grandchildren and now, great grandchildren. She also makes quilts for "Project Linus" "ABC Quilts" and "Quilts of Valor." Barbara Briere has been sewing since Jr High School and progressed from making crafts to clothes for her children to making quilts. She describes machine quilting as her passion, noting "Most of my quilts are not made from a pattern. I like to take it from idea to completion on my own." Her designs are one-of-a-kind. She is a member and past V.P. of Evergreen Quilt Guild of Southern Maine. The featured quilts, in both traditional and contemporary styles, are just a sampling of work from these talented women. In the gallery you will find a binder with photos of additional work which may inspire you to order a custom quilt for your family. The gallery is located in the atrium entrance of Great Bay Community College and is open during regular college operating hours. Guests are encouraged to sign the guest book when visiting.
