CHURCHVILLE, PA — The Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Department will be sending a fire truck to a town in Kentucky that was recent hit by a tornado.
Engine 83, which was set to be retired on Friday, was donated to Mayfield Graves Fire-Rescue Squad in Mayfield, Kentucky. The recent string of tornados completely destroyed the town's fire department, costing them fire trucks and other resources for their community.
The engine was located at the Churchville Station and was used in keeping the community safe for over 2o years. It is one of several donations to the Kentucky fire department, who's main hub area was completely destroyed and in need of resources.
According to a report from WPSD Local 6 in Kentucky, most of Mayfield department's equipment, including three tanker trucks, was destroyed in last week's tornado.
"Our thoughts are with all the communities that were devastated by the tornado," the Northampton Township fire department said in a Facebook post.
