FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — The Pennsbury School District will be hosting an event on mental health during the pandemic on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022. The speaking event, titled 'Tired of Talking about COVID? Let's Start Talking About Healing!' will be presented by George Scott, a local licensed therapist, who will discuss the importance of providing support and resources to students and parents who have been negatively affected by the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. "The past twenty months have been difficult for many in our school community," the school district said in a statement. "We have seen increased student mental health-related issues in our schools; some students struggle every day and others may have been hospitalized due to their level of need." Scott will also discuss methods for children and parents to focus on mental wellness during the pandemic. According to a meta-analysis published by JAMA Pediatrics, "Emerging research suggests that the global prevalence of child and adolescent mental illness has increased considerably during COVID-19." "As a district, we are committed to starting the conversation about mental health and wellness in our schools," the district said. "This program will serve as a first step in widening the district's focus on the mental health of our students and staff." The event will begin at 7 p.m at Pennsbury High School East's Auditorium. For those who can not attend the event in person, it will be live-streamed on YouTube. The recording will be available on the school district's website afterwards.
