FRANKFORT, IL – As new confirmed cases of the coronavirus continue to surge around Illinois and Will County, a new testing site has opened this week that will provide Frankfort residents with access to free COVID-19 testing. The new site is being operated by FCTS COVID testing and is located at 20871 South LaGrange Road. The testing site is offering both rapid and PCR code tests at the location. The testing center opens at a time when the risk level in Will County is considered very high at 61.1 new cases per 100,000 residents each day. As of Dec. 11, the county's positivity rate stood at 7.4 percent – the highest it has been since Aug. 20. According to data, 69.5 percent of Will County residents have gotten at least one dose of the vaccines. "The reason why we opened the COVID testing site is to make it convenient for all residents to get tested without having to drive far or go through a hassle of making appointments," the site's manager, Ava Marshall, said in an email to Patch on Wednesday. Marshall said that the site will be free for all users and will not require appointments or insurance. "Now a days, all schools and employers require COVID testing on weekly basis as well as all flights" Marshall wrote in the email. " With having a local COVID (testing) site, this will be an easy process for everyone."
