DANVILLE, CA — Kindergarten enrollment for Danville children ends Friday, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District said. Enrollment for the 2022 to 2023 school year will cover parents who want to enroll students in either kindergarten or transitional kindergarten. Parents who wish to enroll their child can do so online. Any applications filed after the deadline will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis if space is available. Kindergarteners must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2022. The state expanded age eligibility for transitional kindergarten in the coming school year, according to the school district. Students who turn 5 from Sept. 2, 2022, through Feb. 2, 2023, will be eligible for transitional kindergarten. Transitional kindergarten is "the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate," according to the state Department of Education. Transitional kindergarten is not a preschool or child development program, which is designed to prepare 3- and 4-year-old children for elementary school. Enroll your child in kindergarten or transitional kindergarten.
