4 Burglaries To Unlocked Cars Reported: Batavia Police

BATAVIA, IL — Tuesday morning was not a good time for cars in Batavia. Police took four reports of unlocked cars being burglarized in the early morning hours, Deputy Chief Eric Blowers told Patch. In a post on Facebook warning the community, police said the incidents occurred in the northwestern and southwestern residential areas of Batavia. Braeburn subdivision and the neighborhoods surrounding Millview Drive were specifically targeted, and police said they're currently pursuing a number of leads. According to Blowers, the exact locations of the incidents are: In the 1300 block of Newton AvenueIn the 1100 block of Lorlyn CircleIn the 200 block of Mill Street1200 block of North Avenue Police are asking residents in the affected areas to check their doorbell or security camera footage to see if they may have surveillance footage of the suspects. Anyone with possible information is asked to call the Batavia Police Department at 630-454-2500. Police said based on evidence from cases, burglaries are most likely to occur between midnight and 3 a.m. In order to prevent the crimes, police are encouraging residents to remove all valuables — including car and house keys and garage door openers — and to always lock their cars. "Suspects involved in these burglaries are known to utilize garage door openers to enter victim's garages and residences," police wrote. "Please call 911 immediately to report any suspicious activity that you may see in your neighborhood."
