Editor's note: Patch erroneously reported that garbage collection in Batavia would be postponed due to high winds. Garbage collection will continue as scheduled, but residents should wait until morning to bring cans to the curb. Patch apologizes for the error.
BATAVIA, IL — The National Weather Service has placed Kane County, along with other neighboring counties, under a high wind warning starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday and lasting until 6 a.m. Thursday. As a result, Batavia officials issued an alert asking residents not to place garbage cans at the curb overnight and instead wait until 7 a.m. Thursday.
Garbage collection is not canceled this week and will be completed as normal.
Winds will be between 30 and 35 mph with gusts possibly up to 60 mph, according to the weather service. As a precaution, Batavia officials are encouraging residents to also secure any decorations and outdoor furniture that may blow away, according to a community alert sent Wednesday morning.
Along with possibly damaging winds, Wednesday could bring potentially record-breaking warmth, Patch reported. A high of 68 degrees is possible, and there's a chance for rain and thunderstorms Wednesday evening.
