CHARLOTTE, NC — CMS has released a report from its Title IX task force in regards to its handling of sexual assault cases in its schools.
The task force was initiated after a WBTV investigationinto the district's handling of Myers Park High School reports of sexual assault.
Pressure culminated just months ago after another sexual assault report garnered national attention. A Hawthorne Academy high school student was suspended for reporting a sexual assault after school officials did not find the report credible. Police found the report credible and charged another student in the case.
The report is the result of a body comprised of a total of 16 people including 11 high school students, three CMS employees and outside community members from counseling and advocacy services.
The report contains 63 recommendations and can be viewed in its entirety here.
In short summation, the group recommends things like designated areas to report sexual assault, student nomination of staff who take those reports and receive Title IX training. Across the board, the group reiterated the need for more training.
