SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Funeral services for Najib "Jubi" Monsif, whose remains were found at a canal pump station in Mesa last week, are set for this weekend.
Monsif, 20, was initially reported missing Sept. 23. Police believe he ended up in the Central Arizona Project canal near his home shortly after his disappearance. That canal connects to the one where Monsif's skeleton was found, 11 miles away from his home.
A massive manhunt followed Monsif's disappearance, as he had autism and had a diminished mental capacity, according to police and his family.
According to a Facebook post by Monsif's sister, Josie Monsif, the following are service plans in honor of Najib Monsif.
Calling Hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday at Messinger Mortuary Pinnacle Peak, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road in Scottsdale.
The funeral mass is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, 10755 N. 124th St. in Scottsdale.
The burial at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale will follow the Saturday funeral service.
"You have all invested your love in Jubi, and my parents know you'd want the opportunity to pay your respects," Josie Monsif posted in a Facebook group of people who helped search for, distribute flyers and keep an eye out for Monsif. "As always, thank you for everything."
