Description
You are funny. You know nothing about me. I belonged to 2 unions, the teamsters and carpenters. The only name on a check was when I paid my union dues. They did nothing for me except hold me back from making more money. The teamsters lost 75% of the members in our shop when we moved them to "sales", paid them more money. I saw Stemilt Growers in Wenatchee who paid their workers more than min wage, gave benefits and the workers voted in the union. Stemilt told them don't do it but they did it any way. Stemilt developed a sizing and sorting mach to do the job. They spent spent over 2 million to develop it. When the union came in, the workers ended up getting less per hour, the benefits were switched to union benefits which were not as good as Stemilts. Out of 600 employees, 375 lost their jobs and the rest lost wages and benefits thanks to the union. I know this because I was there and helped with the development of the equip. So you really don't know what you are talking about. Yes, union participation is going down because people are realizing they are better off, but still has a huge impact. Why do you think OR is so far in debt because of PERS? I know a teacher that gets more on PERS than she got when she worked.
