Meets

5000 Dawes Ave, Alexandria VA

Description

Would you like to learn how to improvise and play jazz? Beginners, intermediate, and advanced students are welcome. Register for MUS 159 today! MUS 159 is a 3 credit hybrid course. The course meets in person on Tuesdays at 7 - 9:50 in room 220 of the Fine Arts building (AFA) on the Alexandria Campus of NOVA. There is free parking available. On Tuesday evenings, there will be about one hour of direct instruction, and then the class will break for playing time with a combo to practice the new concepts just taught. The Improv Class will combine with the Combos class (MUS 144) for the second two hours (8 - 9:55) in order to give you playing time with a live ensemble. There is an additional hour of lecture/direct instruction online which can be taken at your own pace. You will learn jazz theory and improvisation, and you WILL get better! Only take this class if you would like to learn and get better. This is also a great way to network and get familiar with other musicians similar to yourself. Register here: https://www.nvcc.edu/schedule/crs2222/search.html#/ The course is taught by Professor Gunn, see her bio at https://shannongunn.net/. Contact her with questions via email.
