The Wordsworth-Coleridge Association is sponsoring a festive lunch at the Modern Language Association Convention in Washington, DC The Wordsworth-Coleridge Association is sponsoring a festive lunch at the 2022 convention of the Modern Language Association in Washington, DC. This event is co-sponsored by the John Clare Society of North America. The lunch will begin with drinks and appetizers at 11:30 a.m. with the main course served about noon at a private table in the Yardbird Restaurant. The lunch is open to members and non-members of the Association and the MLA. All are welcome to attend. Advance reservations are requested by December 20, although we will continue to accept reservations after that date on a space-available basis. Please remit $30 per person (or $20 for adjunct faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars) using the registration link above. Your credit card payment will be processed by Eventbrite through the secure PayPal system. This annual lunch is always a social high-point of the MLA Convention, and we are delighted to host a festive gathering of British, American, and European Romanticists, along with your friends, students and colleagues. We promise lively conversation, excellent company and delicious Southern American fare! The WCA lunch is "priced below cost" and includes a tasty selection of appetizers, entrées, dessert, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Complimentary wine and beer are also available. FAQs May I bring additional guests? Yes! You are welcome to bring additional guests, so please feel free to invite your friends, colleagues and graduate students to attend. Please reserve tickets for any guests you may choose to invite, or you can send them the event registration link. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No. All are welcome to attend! Can the restaurant accommodate my dietary restrictions? Yes. Where is the Yardbird? The Yardbird is at 901 New York Ave NW, just three minutes' walk from the Marriott Marquis Hotel. From the hotel, proceed two blocks south on 9th Street. The Yardbird is on your right, at the intersection of 9th Street and New York Avenue. Are we celebrating a special occasion? Yes! The Wordsworth-Coleridge Association is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Marilyn Gaull Book Award, to be conferred annually in recognition of the most outstanding monograph or scholarly edition reviewed during the previous year in The Wordsworth Circle, which Marilyn Gaull founded in 1970 and edited through 2019. This prize will be awarded to the book that best represents the spirit of wide-ranging inquiry, critical acumen, and enduring influence on the field that Marilyn Gaull always championed. We plan to announce the first recipient of the Marilyn Gaull Book Award at the 2022 WCA Lunch. The John Clare Society of North America is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to the study, preservation, and publication of the works of the poet John Clare. It is organized and operated exclusively for literary and educational purposes.
