We have an immediate opening for a dedicated and hard-working transportation manager/dispatcher. Position information: responsible for the directing & supervising of drivers. Enforcing company policies, procedures and processes. Achieve safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery operation that meets customer expectations. Responsible for ensuring state and federal requirements are met, customer and broker satisfaction, dispatching drivers as needed. Hill Meat is an equal opportunity employer who offers a competitive wage and benefits: • Salary depends on experience, starting from $50,000 or more, FLSA exempt • Medical, vision, dental & life insurance are 100% paid for employee & 50% paid for dependents • 401k matching up to 4% • 6 paid holidays after 6 months • 1 week paid vacation after 1 year. 2 week paid vacation after 3 years. 3 week paid vacation after 8 years. • $500 signing bonus and $1000 annual bonuses. Based on: no absences, no tardiness and no disciplinary action. New hires will receive $200 after the first 60 working days and $300 at the end of 6 months. Plus, an extra $50 on every bi-weekly check. (26 weeks = $1300). Additionally, all new and current employees who follow these guidelines will receive $1000 at each annual anniversary from date of hire. New hire, first year potential bonus: $2800. Each following year potential bonus: $2300 Position information: responsible for the directing & supervising of drivers. Enforcing company policies, procedures and processes. Responsible for ensuring state and federal requirements are met, customer and broker satisfaction, dispatching drivers as needed. Position functions: • This position has direct supervisory responsibility of 5-10 drivers at any given time, plus 3rd party haulers. • Monitor customer orders and provide loading sequence to shipping, sales team & management. • Schedule and communicate driver start times & routing information on a daily basis • Set up daily tractor/trailer assignments. • Monitor drivers in transit to ensure on-time pick-up and delivery. • Route custom delivery and vendor returns. • Shop & negotiate freight rates • Arrange & secure freight backhauls for all return routes. • Responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance or assist in making pay decisions. • This position receives supervision from administrative manager. In some cases, production manager outlines steps involved in completing assignments. Department of transportation and vehicle safety requirements • Must have a good understanding of DOT regulations • Ensure all drivers are within DOT compliance. • Review work assignments to ensure they are within legal and safe hours and dispatch accordingly. • Work with mechanics to ensure vehicle safety, including communicating and coordinating maintenance issues. • Conduct annual drivers meetings Communication with customers, drivers and internal departments • Primary point of contact for driver & will respond to messages via email, phone, cell phone and voice mail. Available 24/7 via phone or email. • Communicate with customers to inform them of any variances in delivery times. • Coordinate communication across all departments of the company where needed with respect to deliveries, etc. • Act as liaison between drivers and internal departments/external customers. • Resolve all driver needs • Perform miscellaneous office tasks Education, skills & experience: • High School diploma or equivalent • Trucking dispatch experience is a must • Experience with transportation management software (TMS) for ELD’s (Samsara currently used) • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft office, CSB, TMS & various web appointment scheduling modules • Class a CDL preferred but not required • Driven and self-motivated, with sound judgment • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously in all instances • Ability to effectively multi-task and make quick, rational decisions • Knowledge of driver safety, scheduling, truck maintenance, and DOT regulations helpful • Understanding of trucking schedules, production/stocking procedures, related computer and paperwork • Possess very strong interpersonal skills and be able to discuss dispatch issues with drivers, customers and other departments • Effectively react to limit an issue and effectively communicate with others as to the solution • Be capable to maintain effectiveness and levelheadedness in a fast paced environment • Problem solving and strong attention to detail • Able to work in a fast-paced, often pressured, environment • Flexible – able to manage constant interruptions, changing schedules and tasks • Patience and empathy for customer and driver needs • Strong negotiation skills, working with brokers, while endorsing customer courtesy and fairness in the servicing of the account • Strong work ethic and customer service skills Work environment: Office, business casual, informal.
