Description

Opportunities abound! Get in on the ground floor of an exciting new original band. Collaborate with me on original songs and join a performing musical band. I am a musician in my mid fifties with lots of band experience. As a songwriter/collaborator I am not limited to just one musical genre. I have approximately 50 original songs. They range in style and production level greatly. Some I spent more time on. Some are just a couple of guitars and vocals. Some were recorded in professional recording studios but most are on home machines. I'm not a perfectionist in recording and usually by the time I get an rough impression of a song down on 'tape', I'm on to crafting the next song. I can provide you with recording if you respond Perusing the songs specifically I hear a multitude of influences, genres and sub-genres. Carpenters-like ballads Elvis roots rock traditional jazz standard anthemic Elton John-ish 70's rock outer space Bowie-esque Pink Floyd-esque tempo Jimi Hendrix psychedelic style mid 70's Paul Simon-esque calypso-island-samba-bossa nova style songs bordering on prog rock classic to 70's period country Beatle-esque pop mid 70's easy listening style John Lennon solo confessional style 60's folk Dylan-esque Shoegaze or indie rock power pop/punk The songs just came out in those ways due to my personal tastes in music but are not limited to these types of sounds. There are, however, genres of music that I'm NOT interested in: metal Bluegrass rap/hip hop electronic blues R&B southern rock anything even vaguely sounding like current top 40 music 80's specific nostalgia (yacht rock, big hair) I do like some 80's music ( the Smiths, XTC, Kate Bush and maybe a few others) and I realize it is very nostalgic for many and that there are quite a few cover bands that expressly play this period of music. My 'sweet spot' of nostalgia lies in the early to mid 70's period of pop music. I love much of the music peripheral to this period as well, even some specifically labeled as 'yacht rock'. My first love as a youngster/teenager was British invasion music. Particularly the Beatles and the Who. I came to American music by way of British groups like these. I also love the style of music known as 'the Great American Songbook' which the 'book of knowledge', Wikipedia, describes as, 'the loosely defined canon of significant early 20th century American jazz standards. Popular songs and show tunes.” Songwriters such as Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Johnny Mercer, etc., are some of the best songwriters of all time. I try to pull their musical sensibilities into my songwriting and draw upon their muse. Does a musical venture of this description sound interesting to you? Do you play one or more instruments and/or have a confident singing voice? Do you enjoy playing in a band setting in front of live audiences? Do you enjoy writing songs and collaborating with others? If you've answered yes to one or more of these questions, and you've checked out my originals, drop me a line and we can talk.
