Midtown Global Market is hosting a multi-day celebration of Kwanzaa beginning Sunday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 31, 2021. Midtown Global Market is hosting a multi-day celebration of Kwanzaa beginning Sunday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 31, 2021. These celebrations of community, family and culture will feature a variety of educational and fun activities for all ages: storytelling, dancing, crafts, and family time. All events are free and open to the public. • Sunday, Dec 26, 12pm – 3pm. Live music by Dan Rumsey and Backbeat Harris. Crafts, and Black entrepreneurial Pop UP with a variety of vendors including New Start Fashion, Cultural Wellness Center and others offering local handcrafted items, clothing, paintings, candles, and other exciting items. At 1:30 pm- 10-year-old African American author, Zephaniah Martin, will read aloud from his book entitled “Jaheem’s First Kwanzaa.” Beautifully illustrated by Bilal Karaca, “Jaheem’s First Kwanzaa” brings relevance to Kwanzaa from a child’s point of view and connecting this special holiday to someone he loved. For his literary achievements, Zephaniah Martin was honored as the 2021 winner of the Youth Writing Competition sponsored by Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute. • Tuesday, Dec. 28, 12pm – 2pm. Readings by Elder James the Poet • Wednesday, Dec 29, 5pm – 7pm . Bro. Ghana & Bro. Asè Djembe Drum performance • Thursday, Dec. 30, 12pm – 2pm. Reading by Elder James the Poet. 5pm - 7pm Performance by Art of Dance • Friday, Dec. 31, 5pm - 7pm . The final day of Kwanzaa celebration will coincide with our New Year’s Eve family celebration. All ages are welcome to join us for musical entertainment as well as an early countdown and confetti throw at 6:30 p.m. Street and Ramp parking available. Ramp parking is locating on 10 Ave and Lake Street.
