The Rotary Club of Weston and City of Weston community came together on Dec. 5 for the 24th Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Health & Fitness Festival. More than 1,600 adults and 700 children participated in the event, raising funds for those in need in Broward County and worldwide. The City of Weston and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (the event’s title sponsor) presented the event. “The Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Health & Fitness Festival would not have been possible without the support from our sponsors, volunteers and the Weston community. The event was a great way for parents and kids to come together and get out again for a fun event,” said Frank Dreier, Rotarian and chairman of the Rotary Run for Tomorrow. “This event exceeded our expectations and showcased that Weston is a great place to live. Each year, the community continues to come together for this event, and we could not be more grateful.” The event included a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and the Commission Cup 1 Mile Walk. For the Commission Cup 1 Mile Walk, elementary school students throughout Weston and their families were invited to join a one-mile family health walk to help their school win the 2021 Commission Cup Trophy and cash prizes. The winner of this year’s prestigious Commission Cup was Manatee Bay Elementary School. Manatee Bay Elementary School, along with Indian Trace Elementary School, Imagine Weston and Sagemont, will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Eagle Point Elementary School, Gator Run Elementary School and Country Isles Elementary School will each receive a $500 cash prize. Following the runs/walk, the Health & Fitness Festival was open to the public for free with various activities and the opportunity to win prizes. Attendees visited more than 50 vendor booths featuring health and wellness products/services, children’s activities, health check-ups and more. Additionally, attendees joined the Get Fit Challenge by participating in multiple fitness activities throughout the City of Weston from Nov. 6 through the Health & Fitness Festival on Dec. 5. The challenge was to collect one million “Get Fit” minutes. All participants were entered in the Get Fit Challenge raffle with the grand prize of a PlayStation 5. Additional prizes included Oculus VR headsets, bicycles, sports club memberships and more. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital served as the title sponsor for the event. Additional sponsors include Diamond Sponsors DynaServ and UKG; and Platinum Sponsors Dr. Jaffer Foundation, Rotary Club of Weston Charitable Foundation and Freedland Harwin Valori Ryan, PL. Over the past 20 years, the Rotary Run for Tomorrow for charity event has raised well over $1 million in proceeds for charities serving local needs, which include Harvest Drive, LifeNet4Families, Jubilee Center, Honor Flight South Florida, HANDY, HAAPE, Kids in Distress and Mothers Against Drunk Driving, as well as humanitarian projects in other countries and worldwide polio eradication programs through the Rotary Foundation.
