POLK COUNTY, FL — A 20-year-old substitute teacher at Lakeland High School has been accused of having unprotected sex with a minor. Authorities said a student told police officers Dec. 3 about a Snapchat video that showed the suspect and another student having sex. The video had also been seen by a large group of the school's football players, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Ayanna Davis of Lakeland told detectives Dec. 10 she had sex with the student twice at his house and twice at her house, a news release said. Following her interview, she faces charges of sexual battery by custodian and offenses against students by an authority figure, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Twenty-year-old Ayana Davis faces sexual battery charges after she allegedly engaged in sex with a high school student she met where she worked as a substitute teacher. (Polk County Sheriff's Office) Davis is not a Polk County Public Schools employee. She had been hired through a temp company, Kelly Education Services. Authorities informed the company Davis is not allowed to work in any Polk County Public School because of the charges she faces. Sheriff Grady Judd said this was a clear violation of sexual battery laws, and Davis took advantage of her position for her own pleasure. "We expect substitute teachers to uphold the same high standards of conduct and professionalism as our full-time educators," Superintendent Frederick Heid said. "The charges against this person are disgraceful and a complete violation of the trust that teachers build with their students. There is no room in our schools for this type of conduct."
