Job Profile Under the direction of the Branch Manager, the incumbent will service and maintain equipment, ensure a clean working environment and assist other technicians in the shop as needed. Equipment includes gas/diesel welders and generators, electrical inverter and transformer based machines, plasma cutters, and electrical/mechanical positioning equipment. Work location, Berkeley, CA. Work Schedule 7am to 4pm. We are looking for a Shop Laborer who: Ensures a safe work environment by following Airgas/Red-D-Arc’s health and safety guidelines. Test and calibrate machines to see if they are functional for rent or sale. Repaint parts, touch up paint, and put decals on welders to keep up general appearance. Replace defective parts and do any preventative maintenance required. Get parts as required in order to complete repairs. Inspect returned equipment for proper operation and /or damage by the customer. Operate a forklift, pallet jack or other necessary equipment to move machines and equipment in the shop. Maintains communication with all branch personnel. Performs other related operational/shop duties as required. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to read electrical/mechanical schematic diagrams is required. Working knowledge of positioning equipment, welding application and equipment is an asset. Ability to perform very heavy work -- routinely lifts 25-75 lbs., occasionally lift 76 lbs to greater than 100 lbs. Ability to perform work during prolonged standing up to 8 hours; Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion also required. Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines. Must be able to work occasional overtime, if necessary.
