District Investigating Racial Slur Written In OCHS Locker Room

OAK CREEK, WI — Administrators in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District are investigating after student-athletes from Kenosha Bradford found a racial slur written in an Oak Creek High School locker room on Friday, according to a spokesperson from the district. OCHS administrators are working with those from Kenosha Bradford on an investigation, said Emily DeBaker, director of communications for the district, and administrators are continuing to meet with Oak Creek student-athletes to stress unity and the highest standards of respect and sportsmanship. District officials have called the incident unacceptable. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported students from Bradford were visiting Oak Creek for a game Friday when they found the slur written in dust on top of two lockers in a locker room. The writing was removed before the game was over, the report said. "The student-athletes from Kenosha Bradford reported this to their coaches, who worked with our administration to immediately remove this gross and offensive language," DeBaker said in a statement to Patch. "We do not tolerate this type of behavior and it is not reflective of Knight's athletics or our school community." Oak Creek Superintendent Dan Unertl told the Journal Sentinel an investigation into the matter is "paramount" and "It's totally unacceptable... ...It's disgusting. It's not reflective of Knights athletics."
