Description
OAK CREEK, WI — Sand has once again filled in parts of the boat launch at Bender Park in Oak Creek, rendering the feature difficult to use for boaters hoping to take their vessels in and out of Lake Michigan, according to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The shallow water hazard has caused issues at the boat launch in the past and dredging operations have previously closed the boat launch to make it usable again. One of the more recent operations in 2013 saw Milwaukee County propose $150,000 to clear out the sand at the launch and find a long-term solution to the siltation problem, but problems have continued for the boat launch.
People who frequently use the facility told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the launch does not provide for safe passage, and boats have occasionally gotten trapped. One angler from Oconomowoc who uses the boat launch posted a video to Youtube showing the troubles with getting a boat out of the water at the launch, the report shows.
