Press release from SCSU: Dec. 13, 2021 Southern Connecticut State University Athletics and the SCSU Student Athletic Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) will host the Owls Holiday Toy Drive at James Moore Field House beginning on Friday, Dec. 10 and running through SCSU Women's Basketball's game against Post on Monday, Dec. 20. S.A.A.C's Owls Holiday Toy Drive will benefit the Yale New Haven Hospital's Toy Closet Program. In addition to the Holiday Toy Drive, SCSU Athletics will also host Santa Claus during halftime of the women's basketball game against Jefferson on Saturday, Dec. 18 and men's basketball's game against Holy Family on Sunday, Dec. 19. S.A.A.C's toy drive campaign started just after Thanksgiving, with the Owls collecting over $300 to shop for toys to be donated to the Toy Closet. "It was so amazing to see the amount of donations that we received" S.A.A.C Co-President Bayleigh Takacs said. "It shows the commitment our student-athletes have to give back to the community. I'm thrilled that it was so successful and we're able to help those in need this holiday season." SCSU Women's and Men's Basketball will host a combined five games from Dec. 12-20. Owls fans, friends and families are encouraged to support the Owls' Holiday Toy Drive by bringing a new, unwrapped present to the James Moore Field House during one of those games. In addition, collection bins will also remain in the lobby of the James Moore Field House on non-game days. "I'm proud, and very happy, that S.A.A.C. worked so hard on this fundraiser for the Toy Closet," S.A.A.C. Co-President Zack Penn said. "The best part about donating to the Toy Closet is that it helps children, 365 days a year. Southern's student-athletes are grateful for the support from the New Haven community and we're always looking for ways to give back." The goal of YNHH's Toy Closet Program is to provide each pediatric patient with an age-appropriate toy or small gift when they are discharged from Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. Toys are given out 365 days a year. This press release was produced by SCSU. The views expressed here are the author's own.
