Here are the top stories today in Buffalo: The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) approved a partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, for the creation of a new wetland ecosystem in Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The project will address the degradation of coastal wetlands in the Niagara River system and across the Great Lakes by industrial development. The project, estimated at approximately $14.8 million, will use material dredged from the Buffalo River to create a new wetland habitat for fish and wildlife in the abandoned shipping Slip 3 adjacent to Wilkeson Pointe. (Niagara Frontier Publications)Nurses from a downstate health system have come to the Buffalo and Rochester areas to help Western New York facilities overwhelmed with a surge of COVID-19 cases. A team from Long Island-based Northwell Health has been deployed to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The Northwell team includes 16 clinical professionals and two team leads, including intensive care, emergency department, and medical-surgical nurses.
