Here are the top 5 stories for today in Salt Lake City: Real Salt Lake has named former USA international, 2001 MLS Best XI player Pablo Mastroeni as the Club's permanent head coach, signaling a new era for Salt Lake's Major League Soccer team. Per the press release, "Pablo's ability to build a culture and instill belief within the Club has resulted in the most tight-knit locker room seen in years," adding that the team was excited for him to bring that kind of culture to the entire RSL organization. (RSL) Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City recently unveiled its new newborn ICU, and it's an impressive upgrade. Doubling in size, this state-of-the-art NICU is equipped with the most modern technology designed for tiny infants in critical conditions and is the "most highly specialized NICU in the Intermountain West" anticipated to not only be an essential medical resource to the local community but for the entire region. (KUTV 2) Amazon launched its first same-day fulfillment center in Salt Lake City, joining about a dozen other major cities, but marking a first of its kind for Utah. The 150,000 square foot facility in the Northwest Quadrant of SLC aims to hire 250 employees, attracting applicants with health benefits and tuition reimbursement. KSL reported that since 2010 Amazon has invested more than $2 billion in salaries and real estate in Salt Lake City, and now, after this fulfillment center, 8,000 jobs. (KSL.com)Warming temperatures resulting in a later ski season year over year have ski resorts reacting creatively to the changing climate and what that means for the quality of snow. For some that means more and better snow blowers to help make enough snow for the slopes, but many resorts are also investing significantly in marketing their slopes for mountain biking, building more trails, hosting events, and other activities that can be promoted throughout the entire year. (Fox 13)Developers still seem to have their eye on the Ballpark neighborhood of Salt Lake recently sharing plans for a new complex of six rental townhome buildings there. After approval and construction, the 47 one-and-two-bedroom townhomes would be the first multi-family housing construction west of 300 West on 1700 South.
